Equity Investment Analyst, Global Fundamental team

A highly experienced and successful team is looking for an additional member to support the Investment Managers with company selection and portfolio management.

This position reports to the Head of the team.

GuardCap Asset Management Limited (“GuardCap”) is a UK-based specialist investment business and a wholly owned subsidiary of Guardian Capital Group Limited, a Canadian-based investment management firm listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

GuardCap began in its current form in 2014 and manages two long only strategies, the first investing in global equities, the second in emerging markets. Both strategies share a common philosophy and offer investors a concentrated, research driven approach focusing on long term returns.

The Global Team

GuardCap’s Global strategy has over USD 12 billion assets under management. We employ an established, disciplined investment process with rigorous risk management. We are long only investors in high quality, sustainably growing companies. Turnover in the portfolio is extremely low. High return on invested capital, low balance sheet leverage and a sustainable competitive advantage are among our key investment criteria. The team, currently 4 people, have an average of 22 years Portfolio Manager experience. Our collaborative and inclusive culture is designed to generate alpha for our clients.

The Investment Analyst’s Responsibilities

• Analyse companies and generate investment ideas. The successful candidate should be disciplined and willing to work within the framework of the team’s investment process. Coverage responsibilities will span geographies and industries.
• Perform thorough fundamental analysis of a company’s business and financial position and work on the construction of financial models as well as other sector and market research including visiting companies and their senior management.
• Develop and communicate investment recommendations.
• Involvement in portfolio management issues.

Candidate Requirements

• At least 3 years’ experience in company analysis. This may have been in corporate strategy, buy-side, sell side, investment banking, management consultancy or accountancy professions.
• Independent thinker
• Self-starter, but with the ability to work effectively as part of a broader team
• Clear motivation to work in a buy side team and contribute to the team’s disciplined approach to investing
• Strong financial modelling skills
• Highly developed analytical skills with the ability to think critically and in a considered manner.
• An affinity for and understanding of ESG principles.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Degree educated and likely to have or be working towards a CFA qualification or similar.
• Sense of humour
