Job overview

Due to an expansion in the Mechanical Thrombectomy Service we are looking for a registered nurse with experience in Interventional Radiology Theatres, Neurosciences or Stroke services to take on an exciting role as a Mechanical Thrombectomy Nurse Co-ordinator. The post is a full time position and there will be an expectation of on call and out of hours working as the service develops.


Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will help to co-ordinate patients referred to NUH for Mechanical Thrombectomy (MT)

They will work in collaboration with Interventional Neuroradiologists, Speciality Lead Consultants and senior Specialist Nurses from: Stroke services, Anaesthetics and regional teams to receive referrals and coordinate appropriate care for patients identified for MT treatment and will act as a clinical role model, promoting quality evidence-based practice. Inter-disciplinary team liaison, education and training in the care and management of patients on the MT pathway within NUH.

The successful applicant will be responsible for providing specialist care and advice to a specific patient group and will contribute to the development of the specialty service.

They will assist with the organisation of this service ensuring that the patients needs are met. Also they will be expected to liaise and carry out training in relation to the pathway with referring Trusts, carrying out audit and reporting findings regarding the service.

We will provide training within the role.

Working for our organisation

The successful candidate will work within Interventional Radiology Theatres at QMC site alongside the friendly multidisciplinary team of radiologists, radiographers and nurses. It is a busy department consisting of three theatres performing minimally invasive procedures as an alternative to open surgery.

This is a rapidly expanding area of practice and we are keen to encourage developments in line with Trust policy and working in new ways.

The post holder will work as an accountable, autonomous practitioner autonomous practitioner to coordinate the Mechanical Thrombectomy (MT) pathway within Interventional Radiology Theatres, at Nottingham University Hospitals.

The post holder will be responsible for developing and maintaining strong links with local and regional stroke services in order to promote and maintain best patient care.

The post holder will be responsible for using various computer systems for the collation and recording of relevant SSNAP data for stroke patients entering the MT pathway.

The post holder will act as a clinical role model, promoting quality evidence-based practice, inter-disciplinary team liaison, education and training in the care and management of patients on the MT pathway within NUH.

The post holder will be responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of the MT pathway, provide specialist care and advice to a specific patient group and will contribute to the development of the speciality service.

Training & qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Current Level One NMC registration,
  • Competent in medicines management,
  • Teaching & assessing qualification/SSSA

Desirable criteria

  • Degree in health / nursing related studies
  • Evidence of continual professional development

Experience

Essential criteria

  • At least 3 years’ experience delivering care to a group of patients.
  • Knowledge of working in Radiology Neurosciences or Stroke

Desirable criteria

  • Recent or current experience within the specialty.
  • Demonstrate an involvement in link nurse, or project work

Communication and relationship skills

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Produce timely, accurate written/electronic records and documents.
  • Demonstrate moderate IT skills

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Demonstrate evidence of providing formal teaching session.
  • Demonstration of team working and ability to work within a team

Analytical & judgement skills

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrate an ability to assess, plan, deliver, prioritise and evaluate patient care.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the MT Nurse specialist role
