Purpose:
We are currently looking for a Trainee Paralegal to join our Employment team and the successful applicant could be based either in Bristol or Leeds. The purpose of the role is to run a caseload of Employment Tribunal files and also support the existing Employment team with non-contentious work. Experience of working in the employment field is helpful, but not essential.


Work is mostly claimant litigation, with some respondent litigation. If successful, you will have a varied and interesting case load, with high quality work including as your experience develops complex discrimination and protected disclosure cases and plenty of scope for developing legal skills in a friendly, collegiate environment.


As a trainee paralegal, you will join a salary structure whereby you will have regular six-monthly salary reviews on a two-year structure.

You can expect a salary increase in accordance with the structure if your performance is satisfactory and will therefore benefit from regular discussions about your progression, through formal appraisals and one-to-one meetings.

Hybrid working: This role would be based in either our Bristol or Leeds office, with a combination of home and office working (working 2 days in the Bristol or Leeds city centre office and 3 days from home). You would therefore need the infrastructure in place to work from home and will be provided with a company laptop.

Hours: The successful candidate will work 7 hours a day, 35 hours a week, (two days in office, three days from home), between the core working hours of 8am-6pm, Monday to Friday.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Advising clients on potential Employment Tribunal claims;
  • Running a case load of Employment Tribunal claims, including drafting pleadings, drafting witness statements, negotiating settlements, and instructing counsel or advocates as necessary;
  • Complying with service level agreements;
  • Supporting other members of the team in running their case loads.

Skills/Competencies required:

  • Knowledge of employment law and legal experience in a law firm helpful, but not essential as training will be given;
  • The ability to run a caseload;
  • Effective time management skills;
  • Effective people skills (able to get on with colleagues, clients, other side solicitors etc);
  • The ability to work as part of a team;
  • The ability to prioritise your work;
  • The ability to work to strict deadlines;
  • An organised approach to your work; and
  • A positive attitude.
