Quant Engineering
Position purpose
EDF Trading is building a strategic position management system. This role is to establish requirements and lead the implementation across all trading desks and Front Office Risk. Different desk will need their trading positions calculated and shown in a variety of ways.
The ultimate solution is likely to be centred around a fast, responsive and flexible, bespoke user interface, augmented by tools such as PowerBI and Excel to provide greater flexibility and analytical capabilities.
Experience required
- Experience working in a commodity trading environment. This is detailed as follows:
- Understanding of commodity market fundamentals, including trade instrument types and commodity specific nuances
- Working using Agile Scrum/Kanban Methodology
- Must be proficient in SQL
- Excel VBA
- The Quant team require a tester to validate data models that use complex mathematical functions and curves. Maths knowledge is not essential, however the ability to quickly build knowledge across complex processes is needed.
- The testing is data testing, so examining multiple sources of data across databases, tools and spreadsheets, and checking the output based on rules which they may need to interview multiple stakeholders to understand.
- The individual will be expected to gain knowledge of how the structures, systems and processes work, so this person will need to be tenacious, however once they have this and are considered knowledgeable in the energy commodity trading domain they are likely to be selected for other tasks by the client.
- SQL skills, and a strong understanding of using Excel formula are required.
- The delivery environment used is ADO so ADO familiarity would be greatly beneficial.
- Occasionally, the team use Python coding, so if the candidate has experience in Python coding this would be beneficial.
- Individual needs to be competent at writing formula in Excel to manipulate data (although not write macros).
- e.g. Lookups, Trimming, Casting, SUMIFS/COUNTIFS statements with Boolean logic.
Person specification
- Ability to work directly with the business teams to define functional requirements and to communicate in a meaningful manner with different levels within the organisation (traders, operations, department heads).
- Ability to translate complex business requirements to solid functional specifications, whilst ensuring business context is fully understood. Must be attentive to detail with strong focus on accuracy of information.
- Ability to drive change to business practices by working effectively with all levels of users, looking to automate and streamline processes where possible, whilst retaining high levels of operational control.
- Ability to work closely with the EDFT technical development teams to help jointly define the optimum solutions. Must be able to communicate complex functional requirements and designs to technical staff.
- Highly motivated to complete projects and ‘go the extra mile’ to meet deadlines.
- Able to multi-task with minimal supervision.
Hours of work:
8.30am – 5.30pm, Monday to Friday however flexibility required.
