We are seeking a highly experienced Senior GIS Consultant to join our Buildings and Cities Digital solutions team, comprising of GIS and Data science professionals, in Bristol, Birmingham, or Cardiff.

As our Senior GIS Consultant, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative digital solutions and delivering complex technical projects for our clients to help them deliver outstanding outcomes with geospatial and digital technologies.

You will need to have excellent technical expertise, experience of winning and delivering work and have enthusiasm to drive the business forward and increase our capabilities in geospatial and digital solutions.
With your experience as a technology focused, resourceful and innovative GIS Consultant you will be actively involved in key roles on our most significant projects across multiple sectors.

Your role will see you:

  • Lead and deliver complex technical projects and digital solutions meeting delivery timeframes while ensuring technical excellence
  • Design, develop and implement digital solutions based on automation, geospatial data analytics, data science, data management and data integration to extract deep insights from data and improve decision making
  • Work in multi-disciplinary teams to gather and evaluate requirements to deliver integrated digital solutions and outcome-based innovations
  • Work with clients and our GIS/Digital Solutions team to develop and deploy cutting-edge technologies based on automation, numerical modelling, programming, AI and IoT
  • Lead or support in business development activities, providing technical input and financial components to bids and identifying internal and external business opportunities
  • Work closely with international GIS team members in ongoing development and implementation of standards for day-to-day GIS and digital processes and data analytics / management
  • Mentor and assist the team in improving geospatial data collection, analysis, visualisation, and management
  • Identify opportunities for efficiency improvements, innovations, and new data sources

Candidate Specification

Required for the position of Senior GIS Consultant

  • Highly competent GIS Consultant with strong UK experience and client-orientated approach
  • Experienced in leading large-scale geospatial project delivery, budgeting, task and resource planning and prioritisation
  • Qualified in GIS, geospatial, data science, software engineering, other relevant disciplines, or equivalent evidence of continued professional development
  • Experienced technical lead in geospatial data integration and solutions development through automating complex technical workflows, spatial ETL, spatial analytics, spatial data collection, validation, and management including data standards and metadata, visualisation and desktop and web application development
  • Experienced in Safe FME desktop with a proven track record of designing, developing, and maintaining workbenches and leading / technically reviewing complex workbenches to ensure quality and best practice are applied
  • Track record in ESRI ArcGIS product suite including ArcPro, ArcMap, AGOL and mobile data collection
  • Experienced in Python scripting within ESRI ArcGIS and open source advantageous
  • Experienced in database development including data flows, schemas, metadata, data versioning, updates, and data standards (File geodatabases and PostGIS or other database systems)
  • A problem solver and creative thinker leading and driving technical excellence and innovation
  • Excellent communication skills including proven track record in report writing and documents reviews
  • Excellent business development skills with drive and ambition to grow these key areas
  • Hunger to expand technical knowledge and to learn new skills
Desirable
  • Ideally Fellow of RGS (with IBG) and a Chartered Geographer (GIS)
  • Experience in FME server/cloud advantageous
  • Knowledge / experience of Azure cloud services and DevOps
  • Knowledge / experience of developing / leading solutions utilising Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning a plus
  • Experienced in remote sensing data analytics, including, satellite optical and radar imagery, aerial and mobile imagery, and LiDAR data useful
  • Interest/skills in other and emerging technologies a plus, such as, Digital Engineering, BIM integration, gaming engines, AR/VR, AI/ML, PowerBI, Blockchain
  • Advanced programming skills (JavaScript; Python; Arcade; C# in conjunction with ArcGIS API for example and other web frameworks, such as Cesium, AngularJS, Django) useful
